The Carefree/ Cave Creek Reading Room is tucked alongside breathtaking boulders and other-worldly rock formations. For over 20 years, the Reading Room has served this beautiful community. We offer a space for uninterrupted study of the Bible and major writings of Mary Baker Eddy. You will also find The Christian Science Monitor available to read in paper or treeless editions. A lending library of books is maintained for regular visitors to borrow.

A computer is provided to help with your study of the Weekly Bible Lesson-Sermon. Visitors can watch the lesson-sermon on streaming video, look up words and phrases in the reference books and browse the online study tools. Studiers with their own laptop can use the wireless service at no charge.

Publishing and writing about spiritual healing is a very important aspect of the services offered at the Reading Room. The entire collection of Journals and Sentinels from 1883 to the present date is available for research. These bound volumes of previous publications are loaded with verified accounts of spiritual healing. Author and title searches on the computer make any article from over 100 years of publishing easily retrievable.

Other activities are held in the Carefree/ Cave Creek Reading Room. A discussion group about spiritual healing was held on Saturday following a lecture, presented a week earlier. Newcomers approach the subject of spiritual healing without being confronted by church services and sermons. Informal discussions ease the newcomer into regular study and practice of spiritual healing.

On the first Monday in June the Reading Room hosts a gathering to view the Annual Meeting by streaming video from Boston, MA. We have found that group activities make the electronic resources more visible to participants and reduce barriers to access. Sometimes a reluctance to use electronic resources keeps the treasures of spiritual knowledge hidden from view. The librarians know how to use the electronic resources and are happy to teach them to you.

A variety of books, CD’s and periodicals are available for sale to the public. Some of these products are available online or can be ordered by a Reading Room librarian. You are invited to visit the Carefree/ Cave Creek Reading Room and make it your destination for spiritual renewal.
