Since moving the Reading Room into their branch church building about four years ago, members and visitors at Phoenix’s Second Church have found many blessings.
Touching on a few:
- The study area is used frequently by Sunday school students
- It provides a great way to introduce people and get acquainted
- It connects members and visitors with Sunday school activities
One member notes, "With Wednesday evening services held there also, the Reading Room is so accessible. After one of our inspirational services, people can borrow or purchase materials they may have heard about in testimonies, etc. They don't have to wait until they can make a trip to the Reading Room! Also, it is nice that visitors to our Wednesday service get to see the Reading Room that night, and that may help them decide to come back during open hours."
The Reading Room occupies a portion of the west wing of the church - a large space which also houses the Sunday school. Hours of operation vary in summer and winter and according to staff availability. Right now it is open from noon to 3pm on Tues, Wed and Thurs, and on Sat from 10am to noon. The sales area on one end, along with the study area, is also accessible about an hour before the Wednesday evening service and after the Sunday service. Being on a busy main street, the Reading Room attracts the lunch crowd during the week.
The study area provides bound volumes, marked books for reading the Weekly Bible Lesson, a computer with Concord, Found Volumes and Internet access, and an audio player for listening to tapes and CDs.
