Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist Reading Room has
been in a new location for a year and a half and they are happy to
report good progress.

According to Kathleen W. Allison, the former location was at the Houston Galleria. "There we were
shuffled from pillar to post to finally end up on the
third level where foot traffic was slow," said Allison.

As you can see from the photos, we are now in a strip mall in a
beautiful section of Houston just a few blocks from our church.
Adequate parking is now available at our front door!
A few doors down is a large national drugstore and in the other
direction a video rental shop. On one side of us is a popular sandwich
shop and on the other side two lovely gift shops. We are grateful that there is heavy foot
traffic.
Interior views
Our space is large and includes a well-stocked sales room, a
comfortable
study room with three carrels containing sets of marked Weekly Bible
Lessons - two in English and one in Spanish.
A fourth set of books is marked with the
following week's lesson so that our Sunday School teachers
may plan their Sunday School lesson in advance. Several people regularly spend their lunch hours studying. This popular room includes all the bound
volumes, and our lending library. Current literature and The Christian
Science Monitor are on a table near a comfortable lounge chair.
With the help of one of our members, who
organized and filed many Christian Science lectures published over the years in the Monitor, our collection has become quite remarkable. These are not to be
borrowed, but may be studied and copied. In addition, we are pleased to offer an extensive
collection of out-of-print pamphlets and leaflets.
Most notably, our study room is
large enough that we can hold small meetings and even a book talk by a
lecturer.
A small media room houses a television where the Weekly Bible Lesson
may
be seen, and cassettes and CDs may be listened to on our player. A
computer has the Concord and Found Volumes.
Another small room houses our office with a computer for the use of our
Assistant Librarian.
We have a dedicated group of 40 volunteers who enjoy
locating articles in the bound volumes focusing on the current Bible
lesson. A full range of reference books are made available to visitors for in-depth
study.
It is a joy to be working with our fellow members in a collaborative effort to make our Reading
Room a weekly "church in action" for the community.
