Romans 12:

A Living Sacrifice

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to

offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God —

this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but

be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve

what God’s will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 8:6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed

by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh

is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the

Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the

Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of

childbirth right up to the present time.

23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan

inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of

our bodies.

Romans 6:12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you

obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an

instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been

brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of

righteousness.

Section 1

NIV

Leviticus 26:2 “‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary.

I am the LORD.

11 I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.

12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.’”

Ezekiel 18:1 The word of the LORD came to me: 4 For everyone belongs to

me, the parent as well as the child — both alike belong to me.

Psalm 84:1 How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD Almighty!

4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; . . .

2 Corinthians 5:

Awaiting the New Body

1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a

building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 6 Therefore

we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are

away from the Lord. 8 We are confident, I say,

and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

1 Corinthians 3:17 . . . for God’s temple is sacred,

and you together are that temple.

Section 2

NIV

Acts 17:24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of

heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25

And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself

gives everyone life and breath and everything else.

26 From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole

earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their

lands. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and

find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’

Section 3

NIV

Lamentations 3:37 Who can speak and have it happen

if the

Lord has not decreed it?

Genesis 11:

The Tower of Babel

1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.

4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches

to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we

will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower the people were

building. 6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they

have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7

Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each

other.” 8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped

building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel . . .

Isaiah 24:10 The ruined city lies desolate; . . .

Psalm 115:1 Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory,

because of your love and faithfulness.

Section 4

NIV

Leviticus 11:44 I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy,

because I am holy.

Genesis 39:2 The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in

the house of his Egyptian master.

6 So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge,

he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.

Now Joseph was well-built and handsome, 7 and after a while his master’s

wife took notice of Joseph and said, “Come to bed with me!”

8 But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not

concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has

entrusted to my care. 9 No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has

withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do

such a wicked thing and sin against God?” 10 And though she spoke to Joseph day

after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be with her.

11 One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the

household servants was inside. 12 She caught him by his cloak and said,

Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of

the house.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee from sexual immorality. 19 . . . know that your bodies

are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you

have received from God? You are not your own;

Galatians 5:16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify

the desires of the flesh.

Section 5

New American Standard Bible

Psalm 51:

A Contrite Sinner's Prayer for Pardon.

1 Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; . . .

8 Make me to hear joy and gladness, . . .

Acts 10:38 " . . . . God anointed Him [Jesus of Nazareth] with the Holy Spirit and

with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all

who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

Mark 7:32 They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty,

and they implored Him to lay His hand on him.

34 and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him, "Ephphatha!"

that is, "Be opened!" 35 And his ears were opened, and the impediment of

his tongue was removed, and he began speaking plainly.

36 And He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered

them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it.

37 They were utterly astonished, saying, "He has done all things well;

He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

Section 6

NASB

Psalm 146:1 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul!

8 The LORD opens the eyes of the blind.

James 1:16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good thing

given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from

the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Matthew 9:27 As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him,

crying out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!"

28 When He entered the house, the blind men came up to Him, and Jesus said

to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?"

They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."

29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, "It shall be done to you according to

your faith." 30 And their eyes were opened.

Section 7

NASB

Luke 11:34 "The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your

whole body also is full of light; 36 If therefore your whole body is full of

light, with no dark part in it, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you

with its rays."

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field,

God's building.

11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid,

which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 6:20 . . . therefore glorify God in your body [and in your spirit,

which are God’s].

1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely;

and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved

complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. [Amen].
